Fun Activities to Get Kids Outdoors

With all of the technology available, it seems that kids spend way more time indoors than they used to. They often prefer to play games online or watch tv instead of going out and getting some fresh air. This doesn’t have to be the case though. Here are some ways you can make going outside seem far more appealing.

Go Camping

There’s no better way to bond with your children than to completely unplug and spend some time in nature. You can go hiking during the day and then build a campfire at night. Get some camping cookware Toronto and make a delicious dinner and then roast marshmallows over the fire. If you go to the right area, there are plenty of things to do besides hiking if that isn’t your thing. For instance, many places have canoeing, kayaking, floating or tubing available. You can bring some games along to play during downtime as well.

Buy Some Yard Games

One reason your kids may not want to go play outside is because there’s nothing to play. Stocking your yard with lawn games is the perfect solution. Cornhole is a popular game where you toss bean bags onto wooden boards and try to get them through the hole. Giant Jenga also makes a great yard game, and you can even make this yourself pretty easily. If you have a large enough yard, you can go with an old classic like badminton. For younger kids, you can get an inflatable easel where they can create art without having to worry about making a mess inside.

Have a Scavenger Hunt

Kids of all ages love scavenger hunts. Although this will take a little preparation, it will be well worth it. You can do this in your backyard, or all around your neighborhood. It’s even more fun if you can get some of your neighbors involved. Those that want to participate can put something up in the window or yard and the kids can walk around the neighborhood finding the items on their list. Not only will your kids have a blast doing this, but they’ll also get some exercise.

Getting your children outdoors can be very beneficial for their health. Although they may be reluctant at first, you’ll likely find that changes pretty quickly once they’ve tried these fun activities. Give it some time, and you may even find them asking to play outside instead of being on the computer.
