All In The Name Contest and Giveaway Part 1

Many of you may, or may not, have seen my post about the controversy I had started with my “Little Bitty” name for my soaps. Well some woman felt very threatened by the competition and I for one, would hate to feel like I stole her thunder, I so willing agreed to comply to a name change. Besides…..my soap is not little, in fact, the scent is HUGE and so are the bars. So I am bragging, whatever, at least I am confident in my abilities, you have to be in a doggy dog world.

Anyway, I have been stewing this weekend trying to devise a plan for a new name. I know I cannot do this job alone. I am not too proud to ask for help either, which is why I am asking YOU, my faithful friends, family, and readers to help me in the daunting task of formulating a new name for my soapery business.

Here are some helpful hints to play on:
My full name is Karie Noel Herring, Hudson is my maiden name, I live in Arizona, anything else you already know, or semi-know, or will know at the end of all of this! LOL

Here are the fun deets:

  • Visit the blog that I share with my sisters, that we have neglected lately. (I can hear a whip cracking as I say that we have neglected this.)
  • Come back and leave me a comment telling me a name you would suggest for the soap business.
  • Come back and leave me a comment telling me which soap you would like to have, which soap and or bath item you would like to try, and what soap, scent, and formula (dry skin, sensitive, baby, etc) you would like to see made
Those are the basic entries, here are the extra credit ones!
  • Fave my blog on Technorati (button at the top makes it easy. *wink)
  • Stumble this post
  • Follow me (if you don’t already)
  • Follow the blog I share with my sisters (if you don’t already)
  • Follow me on Twitter (if you don’t already)
  • Twitter this, get more ideas for names, post for the tweet and any new name ideas
  • Blog about this Giveaway and Contest with a Link Back (worth 5 entries!)
~~~*** But remember, the first three deets must be completed before any extra entries will be accepted. The more names submitted, the more chances to win!~~~***
Now here is how the winner will be chosen. I personally….WILL NOT CHOOSE!! I know, how crazy of an idea is that!!?? Seriously, I am putting this task in your hands, the power of the people, how very democratic of me right?! Yup, so then I don’t have to worry about hurting feelings! I will post all the names and you get a chance to vote on the name….and only one vote per person to be totally fair and allow everyone a chance to participate. So this is a 2-part giveaway!
What do you win when a name, or a few names are chosen? My bath products of course….but you will have to wait and see until Part 2 of the Giveaway and Contest!!
Part 1 of the giveaway ends July 13th at Midnight AZ Time.
Have fun!!
  1. Sorry about your soap troubles. How frustrating. If I think of a fun name, I'll stop back to suggest it.
  2. Eileen – I am totally cool with the name change, no troubles as far as I am concerned. Just more work, nothing wrong with a little extra work and a little more pizazz is the way I look at it! Definitely drop back in…you are always so dang witty!
  3. I would love to have and try the "Honeymoon" and the "Spa Massage Bar". I am a fan of vanilla and anything that smells clean! Not a huge fan of flowery smells though. I would like to see a soap with beads…you know like moisturizing beads. Can you even do that? IDK but it would be coolio!
  4. Ugh…well I came here to give you this gigantic, late welcome to the SITStahood. And to let you knwo that we are so very excited ou joined us. You obviously have some awesome things to share with the rest of us.
    Then I went and read the letter. from "the woman". In Canada. Then I got all sorts of upset. While I realize how polite you are being, I'm not sure there really is an international intellecual infringement law. I realize that my college major in Economics doesn't qualify me to dispute any of this. But from what I know, inellectual property is only a subjective way to incorporate copyright, trademark and patent law. Just so you know…copyright is for things that are authored or art-sie. A trademark is to distinguish a product from other products. Meaning, the other Etsy shop that said you were infringing would ALSO have to be selling soap, bath products and lotions. Identical things more or less. As for a patent…well I think we all know how hard one of those are to get and it takes years. Etsy hasn't been around long enough for someone to all of the sudden decide they have a patent. And even patent pendings dont' mean anything until the patent is aproved.
    I know you don't need or want to hear all of this. But I would have told her to Suck It! Also, laws are different according to country. So Canada vs. the USA…well it's not like you all are living next door. There basically isn't anything infringing on anyone else. If she was just pissed because you were both on Etsy with the same/similar name…then too bad. Change the catagories that your products are labeled and searched in. You really weren't doing anything wrong and it would have taken too much effort on anyone's part to prove so.
    Anyway…..hope that was a grat welcome to the SITStahood!
  5. I like Boyfriend for my sons and Sweet Pea Pie for me.
    I am a freak for anything lavender or lilac. I have dry skin mainly in the winter, so sensitive skin soap is cool. I also LOVE any product with Goat's Milk.
  6. so as not to go to far from the original i thought of this
    Little Bitty's Soapery (if it exists that word) or another option would be The Fish Soap company or else Soap by Herrings…hope it helps
  7. Mercury Falling – pulled me to it instantly – I love lavendar, and anything to calm the nerves 🙂
  8. I wonder if you could do something to Sweet Pea Pie that would take the grease smell off of a man – more of a bath salt
  9. I would like the "Honeymoon" scent, message bar for dry skin. I think a cute name would be "Fish Bubbles".
  10. Not only am I a follower on the sister blog, I'm an author and a sister! Yay me! Yay us! But I probably should contribute a little more to it. I'll work on that!
  11. A name? Maybe, The Soap Dish? Not very creative but it's late here so I'm Kinda tired :)—step two complete!
  12. I would LOVE to try the Spa Massage Bar! I'd also like to see some soaps with shea butter for my super-dry skin and maybe a coffee scent to invigorate the senses!
  13. What a Little Bitchy woman! How rude!
    So I am tossing a few names into the hat. Of course I have a unusual sense of humor…
    Bite Me Soapery (goes great with fishing AND naughty kids or Canadians…)
    Come Clean
    Scrub-a-Dub Soap
    Best of luck to you! I really love your prices and plan to be back!!
